Why I Became a fat loss specialist

Why I Became a fat loss specialist

Many people want to know what led me to do this job, here is why

I was a personal trainer for 2 years before I became a fat loss specialist.

Up until this point I tried to specialize in posture and rehab, I ran a sports massage clinic, I spent hours assessing and trying to correct postural problems, and in all fairness I was quite good, my  clients felt they could move better and they had less pain.

But for all of these results, they were still not raving about the change they felt.  I noticed that many of them would tell me about the ( poorly advised) diets they were trying and how they were getting on. I had a lot of experience in Nutrition so I gave them some guidance, but nothing too solid.

Then one day I was working late at a big commercial gym, as part of my deal there I gave inductions to all new Members, I remember coming back from one such induction and the manager of the gym was laughing, he smirked, pointed at the Lady I had just been training and in a childish voice he said “ she’s really fat isn’t she” then he carried on smirking.

I was completely shocked, and given that I am an ex Marine who has spent many a drunken night getting naked in public bars it takes quite a lot to shock me.

Here was this vulnerable woman, who felt awful about herself, but had mustered up the courage to do something about it and had come to a place where she could get some help, and this was the attitude of those people.

As I looked around the gym I saw there was lots of people who where there because they wanted to lose fat.

What chance have these people got?  I thought.

Not only where the gym staff ignorant, childish and unhelpful,  but they knew very little about helping people get results, they knew how to sell a membership, but not how to connect with someone’s aspirations and desires.

Over the years I have met more inept Fitness Instructors, people with bad nutrition advice, programs they had copied out of fitness magazines or just made up on the spot.

The world is getting fatter and fatter, and gym memberships keep on rising. I realized that the biggest problem facing our children is a shorter life expectancy than we have.

I want to be on the team that helps change that, I don’t want the NHS to be overrun with Diabetes in 2020 as is currently predicted.

I love seeing the change in people when they change shape, when they become empowered by what they eat.  I love it when people start to love exercise, when they relish a challenge and experience achievement.

I love my job,  I love being a fat loss specialist, and although I just Ignored that gym manager at the time, there is something I want to say to him.

“That lady may have been fat, but you are an ignorant and pathetic excuse for a fitness professional and I am embarrassed that you are in the same industry as me”

The lady left the gym the next week. Although she had signed up for 12 months, she never came back.
